Prof. Dr. Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah did his D.Phil in History from the University of Oxford in 1997 specializing on the Khudai Khidmatgaar Movement from 1937-1947. The topic of his dissertation was “Muslim Politics in the North West Frontier Province 1937-1947”, published later in the form of a book entitled “Ethnicity, Islam and Nationalism – Muslim Politics in the North-West Frontier Province (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) 1937-1947” in Nov, 1999. During his stay at the University of Oxford (1993-1996), Prof. Shah benefited largely from the expertise of his supervisor, Prof. Dr. Judith M. Brown, Beit Professor of Commonwealth History, an authority on Modern South Asia, Prof. David Washbrook and Prof. Richard Gombrich, all of whom treated Prof. Dr. Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah and his wife Nazia and the infant child Pashmina with immense care, love and affection.
M. Phil University of Peshawar
Dr. Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah did his M.Phil from the University of Peshawar in the year 1986 in the discipline of History. The title of his M.Phil dissertation was “Muslim League in NWFP”. Dr. Shah was the first research scholar ever produced by the History Department of Peshawar University. He worked under the kind supervision of Prof. Dr. Lal Baha (Late), an authority on the North-West Frontier Province (Pakhtunkhwa).
M. A (History) and M.A. (Pashto) University of Peshawar
Dr. Shah did his Masters in History (1983) and Pashto (1990); with a gold medal in History. He has been to his credit Sir Steven Runciman Award from the British Council for the best student of History. His love of Khushal Khan Khattak and his in depth study of the resurgence of Pashtoon nationalism urged him to do another Masters in the Pashto language and literature besides availing a Masters degree in History. He often states that his Masters in Pashto enabled him to study the modern trends and techniques in Pashto literature.
